MATTHEW 6:22-23
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darknessJesus speaks about the eye: if your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. Jesus is the light of life. He came to show us the way, saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Whoever follows Him will have the light of life.
The Psalmist refers to God’s Word as a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, helping us see even in the darkness.
Jesus is referring to this passage to show us that when we have Him and keep our eyes fixed on Him, we have light in our eyes. This light brings well-being to our bodies. It also refers to our souls and hearts, meaning that our whole lives will be in a place of spiritual health.
This means that if our eyes are not fixed on Jesus and His Word, our lives will not be well, because whatever we look at becomes a source from which we receive and draw. If we believe the news and everything the world says, we can begin to live in fear. Our whole lives can become dependent on the source we look to. That is why our eyes are so important as Christians. Where we look determines our perspective, and our perspective is shifted and shaped through His Word so that we begin to see situations and particular circumstances as God sees them.
Jesus is telling us to watch where we keep our eyes, because our whole lives depend on what we focus on. Our eyes can be cleansed through His Word, and our spiritual sight can be healed through God’s revelation.
When I see Him, I see life. When I see Him, I see hope. When I see Him, faith rises. When I can see, I can move. When I can see, I can fulfil my purpose. When I can see, I can achieve. It is all about our perspective.
One person can see a problem, while another sees a promise. One person sees struggles, while another sees hope. One sees only small opportunities, while another sees that everything is on the table. Our eyes are important. Our eyes determine our direction.
Our spiritual eyes need to be sharp, but we need to live from above to see things better. We need to live from God’s perspective, not human logic. As Christians, we are called by God to see things as He sees them.
If I see enemies rising, I know that God’s victory is possible. If I see sickness, I see an opportunity to pray for healing. If I see brokenness, I can become God’s hands to bind up the brokenhearted. When I see, I begin to be God’s hands on earth. When I see, I begin to be His eyes. When I see, I become His prophet.
If I can only see, that is enough for me to believe.
We need to see God move in our nations. We need to see God move in our families. It is time for God to open our eyes so that we can see what is happening in the world and understand how He can move through His Church, which He has called to serve in society, in our communities, and in government.
When we see what God is doing, we do not focus on what the enemy is doing, but on what concerns God and what He is calling us to do.
There is a great shift happening in our society, from looking at powers and principalities to focusing on ourselves, from obeying higher forces to becoming individualistic. But a new order is coming against God’s order.
The Church can shift the atmosphere and change the reality of people’s lives as we prepare for the time when Christ will return.
The Church must move from simply building buildings to building communities, reaching the corners of our streets, and bringing God’s presence into people’s lives. God is moving, but we need to wake up to the truth and to God’s call. We need to realign our eyes with His truth and commit our lives to His purposes.
There is not much time left to keep looking at the world. Instead, we must look to Jesus, the One who accomplished our salvation, the Author of life, our Lord and King. His power and glory remain the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Our focus and perspective need to change accordingly so that we can walk in the well-being of our souls and bodies.
